I suppose I had a mirthful moment two days ago — I was purchasing my morning coffee at my favorite cafe — owned & run by a fabulous woman — there was a woman ahead of me on line and I noticed her eyeglasses — being an eyeglass-wearer myself — I said, “I love your glasses.” She responded, “oh, they’re old, I need new ones, I bought these in the city, I need new ones.” So I said, “no you don’t they are really beautiful.” I purchased my coffee, wished her a great day and headed upstairs to my spot. A few minutes later, she came up, sat down across the room and started a conversation with me. That simple compliment was a door opener. She was so grateful. We exchanged some polite small talk and she offered her email address and phone number and said, “I have to go now, but I would love to have coffee or lunch with you sometime.” One tiny simple effort at forgetting oneself and focusing on another had quite a lovely, human yield. You never know. Cheers!
