She’s voluptuous. Curvy. Luscious in knits.
And terrified of shopping.
I didn’t know this. We had met for lunch and then I wanted to pop into Bergdorf Goodman for a new lipstick (a k a “cheap thrill.”) I asked her if we had time to do this — did she have an appointment — would she mind?
She said she’s terrified of shopping in luxury stores and dealing with haughty salespeople who might tell her right off the bat there’s nothing in her size. I was confused — she’s a successful entrepreneur with eight employees, a solo world-traveler, a clever wit, and a devoted friend. She can buy anything she wants and yet a salesperson (although I know they exist) could intimidate her.
It pains me to think this fantastic woman looks in the mirror and doesn’t see what I see.
This is fact-based blogging right here. I have stories.
Dear Michelle: This is fact-based blogging from someone who cannot abide salespeople who are arrogant. I too have been shunned for reasons I do not know but heard from a very good source the owner said “I can’t work with her.” Amazing.
I hope you’re enjoying spring. Appreciate hearing from you!
